The Frederick Coplestone Memorial sculpted by Eric Gill, listed at Grade II*, depicting “St Francis and the Birds”, is located in Handbridge, just on the outskirts of Chester in Overleigh New Cemetery.

Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Justice of the Peace, who died November 1932. And of his son, Lieut-Commander F. Lewis Coplestone, Royal Navy, killed on active service in H.M. Submarine D.2. Also of his son-in-law, Commander A Coplestone-Boughy, Royal Navy of H.M.S. Defence, killed at the Battle of Jutland. May 1916.

Armorials 1&4: Chequy or and gules, a chief vair a mullet for difference (Chichester); 2: Argent, a chevron engrailed gules between three lion’s faces azure a crescent for difference (Copleston of Eggesford); 3: Gules, a pair of wings conjoined ermine (de Reigny of Eggesford). With initials “EC” and “AC” for Edward Chichester, 1st Viscount Chichester (1568-1648) and his wife Anne Copleston (1588–1616), sole daughter and heiress of John Copleston (died 1606) of Eggesford
